Today, as I find myself amidst the breathtaking beauty of the Kashmir Valley, I am reminded of a story not just of landscapes and lakes, but of human bonds, resilience and revival. It is a story about the unbreakable relationship between the people of Kashmir and the Indian Army a relationship that has stood the test of time and turbulence. From 1990 to 2015, the valley passed through an era overshadowed by fear and conflict. Yet, even during those difficult years, the people and soldiers stood shoulder to shoulder, facing every storm together. And as peace began to return, this bond only grew stronger, setting Kashmir on a new path of progress and hope. Whether it was floods, medical emergencies, or natural disasters, the army has always been there for the people. Their efforts were not just operations they were acts of compassion and solidarity that kindled a new ray of hope in every corner of the valley.
What began as a mission has now become a movement of humanity, trust and development. The Indian Army, affectionately known as the Sepah, has time and again walked beside the people of Kashmir, helping to build not just roads and bridges, but lives and futures. Recognizing the need for holistic support, the army initiated several welfare measures, including Army Goodwill Schools to provide quality education, free medical camps, vaccination drives and mobile medical units for accessible healthcare, prosthetic limb camps to support the differently-abled and sports events and cultural festivals to revive and restore Kashmiri traditions. These efforts represent more than just service they symbolize commitment and care, bringing communities closer and nurturing a shared dream of peace and prosperity. As part of this mission, the army has also undertaken infrastructure development, building roads and bridges in remote areas to connect the valley's far-flung regions. This has not only improved accessibility but also opened up new avenues of economic growth and unity. One of the most impactful initiatives under this journey of progress is the establishment of the Chinar Yuva Centre in Baramulla, inaugurated in April 2016. Its purpose was clear: to empower the youth, to connect with them and to steer them away from social evils such as drug addiction and unemployment. The Chinar Yuva Centre offers training in various self-help and vocational fields such as retail and hospitality, fashion designing, computer literacy, music and art, personality development, recycling and eco-friendly product manufacturing, food processing and beauty and wellness services. These courses have not only helped in developing individual skills but also in generating employment opportunities across the region. Youth who once felt directionless are now part of a vibrant ecosystem of creativity, productivity and responsibility. In response to the rising challenge of drug addiction in the valley, the army has also established a Drug De-addiction Centre in Baramulla. This facility plays a crucial role in rehabilitating and reintegrating the youth, guiding them toward a healthier and more meaningful life. At the heart of all these initiatives lies Operation Sadbhavana a noble mission that represents the spirit of collaboration between the people and the army. More than a welfare campaign, it has become a living example of unity, compassion and hope for all of Kashmir.
